What If Time Tells The Same Story?

Story Time
This is the third year in a row that my Spring Break has not gone as planned. Click on the dates to read the crazy similarities!
March 2020
While in California with 2 of my daughters, the world shut down. One of my daughters had met up with her cousins and was at Disneyland on the final day it was open. My other daughter and I had gotten our teeth cleaned at my Dad’s dental office and were on our way to see my Grandma who was in an assisted living facility. After many urgent calls from both our husbands, we abandoned that plan and drove 6 hours to get home.
March 2021
My daughter and I drove out to California to spend the week with my daughter who lived just five minutes from the beach. Even though many things were still shut down, we knew we could have a good visit and possibly see my parents as well. Just 15 minutes after we arrived from our 6 hour drive, my husband called and said he had not felt well when he woke up and ended up testing positive for “you know what.” Since my daughter who we were going to stay with was working with children, she had to be extra careful about exposure. So, we packed the car back up and drove another 6 hours home. FYI-after taking some Advil he was fine and two negative tests later, I was beyond mad.
March 2022
Last month we talked about getting away for a few days before our family arrived here for a wedding. We settled on going out to San Francisco, where we used to live, since our daughter has never been there. We talked about him putting in for days off, we looked at flights and hotels, we talked to my daughter about it, and then…we did nothing. So, last week we talked about just driving over to Los Angeles (for the 3rd year in a row) and staying with my parents and doing stuff out there. But, it didn’t happen. I was not super happy.
Present Day
Spent the weekend cleaning, went to a museum for a couple hours yesterday and my daughter came into our room in the middle of the night looking for the bathroom cleaner because she had just thrown up. I then realized that I didn’t feel great either. After getting up a few times, I slept until 11:30 and still have a queasy stomach. Family starts arriving in 2 days for the wedding.
Whew! If you read all of that, then you know... It’s a lot!
However, what has struck me is that I chose to revert to old patterns of behavior and think and feel the worst about the situation. I have the ability to look at all of these things in a different light. How grateful I am that we are not sick at my
parents house. How amazing has it been to allow my daughter some down time. She hasn’t been this relaxed in a while. How nice to have some time to focus on my home that has been under almost constant construction since we moved in and will be again as we redo our kitchen starting in May.
We all have patterns, but we also can create new ones. That has been the message of the past almost two years for me. Taking something that is small and simple and doing it consistently will move you to a new place. For me, it started with one minute of running. That turned into changing my identity to someone who moves their body every day. It brought me confidence. It gave me a healthier mindset.
We all have patterns, but we also can create new ones.
90 Day Challenge
I’d love to invite you to consider being part of the 90 day movement challenge. Your only focus is on moving your body for one minute a day. But, I know you will do so much more and gain a completely different perspective.

Here’s to finishing out this week strong. Here’s to enjoying my spring break!
